Description
Polovragi Monastery is a convent of nuns, dedicated to the Assumption, an architectural monument of the Romanian Land of the seventeenth century.
The complex Polovragi Monastery is classified as a historic monument, located at the foot of Stone Polovragilor, near Oltet canyon on the outskirts of the locality Polovragi. It is near the Polovragi cave, which succed to manage it for 300 years.
Polovragi monastery has a history of 500 years (1505), the early founders of this institution are Radu and Patru, sons of Danciul Zamona, both of them mentioned in a charter issued on January 18, 1480 by Prince Basarab cel Tanar (1477-1481).
Church painting is very valuable both in terms of iconography and technical execution. It was executed in 1713 by Constantin. On both sides of the entry, can admire the two iconography representations, unique in Romania.
